Many expected Paris Saint-Germain to advance past Stade Brestois in the knockout phase playoffs of the UEFA Champions League, but no one expected what Luis Enrique's squad was able to pull off Wednesday night at the Parc des Princes.
On this episode of PSG Talking, I’m joined by Marc Damon and Greyson Lee to break down PSG’s 7-0 win over Brest. We also get to potential matchups in the Round of 16, and some recent broadcast troubles for those who watch Ligue 1 in the U.S.
Up first, it’s that massive win over Brest. PSG’s 10-0 win on aggregate is the second-largest in Champions League history. Seven different players scored for PSG and it was a total team performance. We talk about the positives from the match and standout performances.
It’s difficult to pick out negatives in such a lopsided victory, but there are some holes in PSG’s squad that could be exposed in the next round. We discuss potential defensive issues at the club and why they may not be able to fix them until the summer transfer window.
PSG will face either Liverpool FC or FC Barcelona in the next round. We give our thoughts on the potential matchup and whether Barcelona is PSG’s biggest rival outside of France.
We conclude by venting our frustration over the recent technical problems during PSG’s Ligue 1 matches. beIN Sports, which holds the rights to broadcast Ligue 1 in the U.S., went to looping commercials in the middle of a PSG match recently, leaving fans scrambling for a way to watch.
As always, thank you for listening and be sure to subscribe to PSG Talk Extra Time here on Substack for bonus episodes of the podcast.
