✍️ What We Learned From the Club World Cup
Paris Saint-Germain played seven matches in the Club World Cup, and there were plenty of takeaways from their time in the U.S.
Going into the FIFA Club World Cup, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Paris Saint-Germain had just won the UEFA Champions League, the one tournament they had been chasing for more than a decade, and I viewed the Club World Cup as a summer tournament where some of PSG’s fringe players could continue developing. Sure, there was a lot of prize money up for grabs, but money has never really been an issue for Les Parisiens, so I didn’t expect to see much of PSG’s starters.
I couldn’t have been more wrong. Luis Enrique consistently played most of his starters, even against teams like Inter Miami and Seattle Sounders of Major League Soccer. PSG advanced from the group stage and brushed aside FC Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to reach the final against Chelsea FC. In total, PSG played seven matches in the Club World Cup.
The benefit of playing that many matches is that we were able to learn a few things about PSG’s style, the players in the squad, and what needs to change ahead of the 2025-26 season.
