✍️ Should PSG Be Worried About Paris FC?
Paris FC may not threaten Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 this season, but they have the financial backing and football expertise to pose a challenge in the future.
Just because Paris Saint-Germain is set for a quiet January transfer window does not mean there will be no big spending in the City of Lights. Just across the street, Paris FC are set to make their mark as they attempt to establish themselves as French football’s newest force and provide a genuine local rival to the Champions League winners.
PSG’s 2-1 victory last weekend, sealed by goals from Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele, was the first Paris derby played in Ligue 1 since 1990. Even with a squad heavily depleted by the Africa Cup of Nations call-ups and injuries, Stephane Gilli’s side managed to be somewhat competitive, albeit parking the bus to do so.
But that’s not the extent of Paris FC’s ambitions, as they aim to show over the next three weeks of the transfer window and, subsequently, in the remaining months of the season.
There’s a legitimate chance that by the time the midseason transfer period ends at the beginning of February, only Manchester City will spend more than PFC.
