✍️ João Neves: The Heir To Marco Verratti's Throne at PSG
João Neves has become Paris Saint-Germain's key midfielder, stepping into the role once held by Marco Verratti as the club pushes for a historic treble and its first Champions League title.
It has been nothing short of a spectacular campaign for Paris Saint-Germain. Les Parisiens have won 26 league matches, drawn six, and lost twice, both coming after they secured the Ligue 1 title. Having previously defeated AS Monaco in the Trophée des Champions in January, PSG have the chance to achieve a domestic treble as they face relegation battlers Stade de Reims in the Coupe de France final on May 24. And most importantly, they find themselves within touching distance of claiming the UEFA Champions League title and becoming the second French team to conquer European football’s biggest prize after Marseille in 1992-93.
As PSG edge ever closer to the most important match in club football, it’s hard not to take a trip down memory lane and think of all of the players who, despite not participating in their run to Munich, have nevertheless left an indelible mark at the Parc des Princes. Attacking superstars like Zlatan Ibrahimović, Ángel di María, and Edinson Cavani have helped transform PSG from a middle-of-the-road side to the perennial kings of France. Defensive stalwarts like Maxwell, Thiago Silva, and goalkeeping icons like Keylor Navas and Salvatore Sirigu helped lay the foundations of success, whilst midfield maestros like Blaise Matuidi, Thiago Motta, and Marco Verratti have also contributed to PSG’s ascension.
