Warren Zaïre-Emery is making a strong case for being the outstanding under-21 player of 2026, but is there a danger in playing so many matches at a young age?
Strange as it may sound, given all he’s been through over the last 18 months, Warren Zaïre-Emery is a young player who may need to be saved from himself.
The young Paris Saint-Germain midfielder didn’t exactly touch the bottom last season, but at the same time, there’s no doubt that while his teammates were celebrating a historic campaign that was rounded out with that spectacular UEFA Champions League final victory over Inter Milan, on a personal basis, it was not what the Parisian had hoped for.
Having burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old, Zaïre-Emery had to contend with a loss of form and a plateauing of his level. For the first time in his burgeoning career, doubts were being raised.
His resurgence this season has been as spectacular as it has been welcome. Following last Wednesday’s 2-0 dismantling of Liverpool at the Parc des Princes, he was once again being hailed as one of the brightest young stars in the world game.
Indeed, the 20-year-old Parisian holds a strong case for being the outstanding under-21 player of 2026, surpassing even Barcelona’s much-hailed Lamine Yamal.
Why, then, should there be concerns over what the future holds?
